Perfect Party / Checklist

Occasion:

Maybe it is your birthday or you have just passed an exam. Or maybe there is no specific reason for throwing a party at all. Depending on the occasion it might make sense to team up with friends, it will be less expensive and you can share out tasks between each other.

Guests:

How big is your party going to be? In order to make sure that your guests do not already have other plans, you should invite them three or four weeks beforehand. Ask them to reply to your invitation whether they intend to come, so it is easier to plan everything. As a rule of thumb, 10 per cent usually cannot come.

Location:

Do you prefer to celebrate at home or would you rather rent a room in your favourite pub? Make sure to choose a room depending on how many friends you are going to invite. Too spacious a room will spoil the fun. On the other hand, squeezing 100 people into a room that can only accommodate up to 50 isn‘t a good idea, either. Hot, humid air and queues in front of the toilets are the result...

Music:

Music is extremely important and the right mix contributes to your party‘s success. The selection should be versatile and cover everyone‘s taste. Make sure to have enough songs to fill the entire evening. It‘s also nice to have a good stereo and someone who takes care of providing the right mix.

Food:

Make sure to inform your guests whether you intend to offer something to eat. You probably would not like to have too many leftovers, if your guests had dinner before they came to your party. Alternatively, it is also a good idea to have everyone bring some food to the party!

Neighbours:

Please inform your neighbours several days in advance. You can either post notice of your party or tell them personally which is even more polite. In order to avoid trouble regarding your music‘s volume, you may even invite your neighbours. In any case, if your party turns out to be very loud, apologize the next day with a bottle of wine or a bunch of flowers.
